Working with Larger Documents

The text editor can be made taller by dragging its lower edge. You can also select Expand Editor to use a much larger editing workspace. While expanded, press Esc or select Exit Expanded to return to the normal Text Workshop view. On smaller screens, the tool controls automatically move below the editor to keep the text area easy to use.

Word, Character & Reading Statistics

The statistics above the editor update automatically while you type, paste or edit text.

  • Words — total number of words.
  • Characters — characters including spaces.
  • No Spaces — characters excluding whitespace.
  • Sentences — estimated sentence count.
  • Paragraphs — number of text paragraphs.
  • Lines — number of lines in the editor.
  • Reading — estimated reading time.
  • Speaking — estimated speaking time.
Tool Categories & Left Panel

The main tool categories are shown in the tabs across the top of Text Workshop.

When you select a category, its tools appear in the panel on the left side of the editor. This keeps the main text area large while allowing you to switch between tools quickly.

On mobile phones and narrower screens, the selected tool panel automatically moves below the editor.

Text Workshop also displays the number of replacements that were made.

Resize & Expand the Editor

The main editor is designed to handle both short text and larger documents.

On desktop computers, drag the lower edge of the editor to make the text area taller or shorter.

Select Expand Editor to open a near-full-screen editing workspace. The tool panels, statistics and other page controls are temporarily hidden so more space is available for your text.

To leave Expanded Editor mode, select Exit Expanded or press Esc on your keyboard.

Undo, Redo, Paste, Select All, Copy & Clear

Undo returns to an earlier version of your text. Redo restores an undone change.

Paste attempts to paste text from your clipboard. Some browsers may require you to use Ctrl + V instead.

Select All selects everything in the editor.

Copy copies the current text so it can be pasted into another document, email, website or application.

Clear empties the editor. If you clear something accidentally, try Undo before closing or refreshing the page.

Using Text Workshop on Mobile Devices

Text Workshop automatically adjusts its layout for tablets and mobile phones.

On narrower screens, the text editor is shown first and the selected tool controls move underneath it. This gives the editor as much screen width as possible.

Some clipboard functions may behave differently on mobile devices depending on browser permissions. Your device's normal copy and paste controls can always be used if required.

Your Text Stays in Your Browser The Text Workshop tools process the text in your browser. Text entered into the workshop is not intentionally uploaded to CS17 for these text-processing functions.
